Kevin Murphy grew up on the outskirts of Boston, Massachusetts. He was the youngest son of working class parents in a working class city. He always admired the tales he would hear of the unions, the riots and JFK.

Kevin Murphy is an accomplished stand-up comedian who has appeared in the New York Underground Comedy festival for 4 years running. He has performed at some of New York City’s hottest comedy clubs, including Gotham Comedy Club, Comic Strip Live, and the Laugh Factory, and has produced his own stand-up comedy show, Twisted Comedy.

Kevin is a handsome, straight, 100% Irish-American Everyman whose travels have taken him as far as Concord, New Hampshire, Scranton, Pennsylvania, and Trenton, New Jersey.

Kevin’s Co-Host, Mr. Otokomae, is a successful Japanese entrepreneur who made millions in the global instant noodle business with his flagship company, “Fuoku Yakisoba”. Mr. Otokomae came to the United States several years back with the hope of expanding his business into the booming North American instant food market.

During this visit, a prospective client brought him to a comedy club, where was first exposed to the comedic stylings of Kevin Murphy. Although he did not understand Kevin’s sense of humor, nor grasp all of his words, he nonetheless respected Kevin’s determination to finish his set in spite of the terrible reaction of the crowd, many of whom were filing out in utter disgust. It was on this night that Mr. Otokomae first recognized the potential of such a talent and its value as a launch vehicle for Fuoku Yakisoba, and shortly thereafter he began to arrange funding for a program that would become The Kevin Murphy Show.

Jodi Murphy is Kevin’s cousin, and the family secret of the Murphy clan. Though they grew up together, it became abundantly clear early on that the two were quite different.

As children, Kevin collected baseball cards, while Jodi collected unicorns. Kevin enjoyed dressing up and playing G.I Joe, while Jodi preferred entertaining his mother’s friends by donning her bathrobe and impersonating Blanche from the Golden Girls. The writing was on the wall when, in 1997, Kevin accepted an athletic scholarship to Boston College, while Jodi was accepted into the Berkley School of Music to study voice and musical theater composition.

Years later they were reunited in New York City, where they at last learned to reconcile their respective lifestyles. It was only natural for Kevin to choose Jodi as his musical accompaniment on the show, as he was the only acquaintance of Kevin’s gay enough to play the piano.
